Harvested from the forests of Guatemala, Hormigo wood is often used in the construction of musical instruments such as the marimba. The main color of the wood is a warm reddish-orange with grain patterns varying from banding to curly flame accents. A beautiful, dense wood to turn with sharp tools to produce the best results. This Guatemalan variety of Mora wood is heavy, dense and ranges from pale brown to pale yellow in color. The sapwood from which these bowl blanks are taken yields a very smooth surface when turned and readily accepts wood treatment products. Blanks measure approximately 5″ x 5″ x 3″.
