Curly Maple Lumber

Sunday, July 6th, 2008
Curly Maple Lumber
This curly soft maple is highly figured with tiger-striped rays running
perpendicular to the grain pattern. Along with the wood’s light color, this
striping lends a shimmering quality to the lumber. Even unfinished, the wood
has a very pleasing interaction with light. It is no surprise, then, that curly
maple has become a woodworker’s favorite for accents, specialty furniture,
musical instruments, and more.

Curly Cherry Lumber
Most of this gorgeous curly cherry falls into the best available FAS lumber
grade. And while the amount of figure varies slightly from board to board, it
all impresses with interesting patterns throughout. Similar to standard cherry,
curly cherry is a popular choice for cabinetry, but its uses also extend into
specialty high-end projects like musical instruments, boat or car interiors,
decorative turnery, toys, and carving.

Longleaf Pine

Monday, June 30th, 2008
Longleaf Pine
As seen in the August 2008 issue of Woodworker’s
Journal!
With rich, straight grain offsetting a warm, light-colored
background, this
longleaf pine is certainly beautiful to look at. And although technically
considered a softwood, its primary woodworking properties (density,
durability, and workability) are more akin to hardwoods than to other pine
species. It glues up nicely, sands well, and gives off an invigorating pine scent
as it is worked. For beautiful furniture with straightforward figure and
soothing tones, longleaf pine is a fantastic choice.

This lumber is available only online
4/4 Surfaced two sides (S2S) to 3/4″ with one edge straight lined ripped

NOTE: The lumber on this page is offered in random widths from 3” to 6” and is priced in units of square feet (SF). Alowood Lumber – Exotic Hardwood Alternative – Sold by the Piece

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008
Alowood Lumber – Exotic Hardwood Alternative – Sold by the Piece
Alowood gives you the look and feel of exotic hardwood but it’s more stable,
more uniform in color, and is certified as an environmentally
sustainable material by the Forest Stewardship Council. It is made by
impregnating the cells of sustainably-grown pine with color and an
agriculturally-grown additive. The additive is then thermally cured, bonding it
permanently to the cells and adding mass and hardness to the wood. The
result is comparable to most hardwoods in density, and is completely uniform
in color throughout the entire thickness of the stock. It can be glued, planed,
sanded and tooled just like exotic woods. Sold in uniform planks measuring
5-1/2”W x 48”L x 25/32” thick.
